To address increasingly stringent standards for water quality, safety, seismic and environmental issues and to replace aging components built in 1968, HKIT worked as a consultant to CDM Smith on the Reliability Improvement Project at the Rinconada Water Treatment Plant. After an extensive master planning process that included detailed analyses of treatment options, the preferred process train consists of raw water ozone, horizontal flocculation, and sedimentation with plate settlers and deep-bed filters. HKIT’s responsibilities included complete architectural services for five major process structures, including an ozone generation building, two large canopies over chemical areas, a guardhouse, and coordination with landscape design. In addition, HKIT provided detailed renderings of the project for community and client meetings.
