The Carey School Classroom Building
San Mateo, CA
An extensive master planning process resulted in a campus transformation for this K-5 independent school in San Mateo
Founded in 1928, The Carey School is an independent day school in San Mateo serving 288 Pre-K through 5th-grade students. The team’s long-standing partnership with the school began in 2011 when master planning services were provided for campus modernizations and additions. This involved the construction of a large multi-purpose room directly off the main courtyard. The versatile space serves as the hub for school assemblies, a cafeteria, a music room, a commercial kitchen, a faculty workroom/lunchroom, and indoor recreation. On the lower level, below the multi-use room, an early childhood center was established, featuring pre-K and two kindergarten classrooms.
The project also encompassed the remodel of an existing single-story building to include admin offices and a meeting room on the first floor and a second story addition with offices, two foreign language classrooms, and a digital language lab.
