This 42,000 SF project consists of 56 studio apartments for formerly homeless adults plus on-site services. Safe, quiet open space, protected from the urban environment, was an important part of the design. This is provided at the rear of the building, as a landscaped courtyard on the second floor. There is a street level retail space that provides the opportunity for workforce training for residents. The building was developed for the Glide Economic Development Corporation in conjunction with an adjacent 81-unit family housing complex. The design and development teams worked collaboratively throughout the process to create compatible urban neighbors. HKIT worked with a local tile artist to provide a tile mural to further connect the design to the neighborhood.
The adjoining GEDC Housing Building at 125 Mason was completed by Rod Henmi with MWA Architects.
Location: San Francisco, CA
Size: 56 units
Total Gross Building
Area:
42,000 sf
Owner: Glide Economic Development Corp. / TNDC
