Vera Haile Senior Housing
San Francisco, CA
An innovative collaboration between a non-profit community service organization and an affordable housing developer
A collaboration with Mercy Housing California and the St. Anthony Foundation (SAF) developed this ten-story building, including the rebuilt St. Anthony’s dining room, a new social work center, a clothing program, and 90 affordable housing units.
SAF, a non-profit that has supported the local homeless and underserved community for 65 years and provided over 40 million meals through its food program, had outgrown the capacities of its aging existing facilities and needed larger, up-to-date spaces for its programs. Utilizing the creative concept of air rights parceling, SAF approached Mercy Housing California to jointly develop the 11,000 square-foot site to include social service programs on the first two floors with eight stories of affordable senior housing above.

St. Anthony’s Dining Room is a bustling and welcoming space where the community can enjoy meals and socialize
