Paseo Estero & Vista Estero at Brooklyn Basin Interiors
Oakland, CA
Tall volumetric spaces showcase a collaboration with Oakland student art program
As the first two affordable housing projects within the Brooklyn Basin development, Paseo Estero and Vista Estero create a signature statement both architecturally and within the interior spaces. Tall, volumetric spaces with large windows showcase bold color themes and multimedia artwork created by local students and regional professionals. The art themes highlight the location and community, both past and present, anchoring the project in this specific place. Decorative acoustic panels and the re-use of offcuts from the environmental sculpture at the building entry weave the architecture and art together. Located at the hub for this new waterfront community, the design brings a modern vibrancy in color, material choices, and art to a population that is often underserved by designers.

The design of double-height lobbies allows for ample daylight and the opportunity to showcase large-scale artwork by local artists
