Life’s Garden Renovation
Sunnyvale, CA
This revitalization of apartments for independent seniors was carefully phased so that the residents could stay in place
Life’s Garden, a community of independent senior apartments established 40 years ago, required significant upgrades to sustain its role in providing affordable housing for low-income seniors. The community comprises 208 units, including studio and one-bedroom units.
An extensive assessment was conducted as the basis for phased improvements. This approach enabled residents to stay in their homes throughout the two-year and eight-phase construction period. The renovation improved apartments, landscape, exteriors, and all common areas, including reception and management offices, lobby and lounge, elevators, dining room, public toilets, recreation room, a library, shared lounge, seating areas along the living unit corridors, and laundry facilities. The improvements also included the creation of a distinctive front entry.
