Kennedy High School Modernization
Richmond, CA
Significant modernization and addition to a 1960’s era campus
The transformation of John F. Kennedy High School is based on the master plan’s vision of re-imagining a 1960s-era campus to provide inspirational and supportive learning environments, along with dynamic spaces for socialization and wellness. Many of the existing buildings—originally constructed as windowless concrete shells—will be re-envisioned to introduce natural light, openness, and connection to the outdoors. The new main building will be a positive and prominent presence along Cutting Boulevard and will include administrative areas, a variety of learning spaces, and bright, flexible environments that encourage both learning and social interaction. A new, much-needed Student Center will serve as an active hub for campus services and events, and will also function as a dining space. Additional improvements include the renovation and expansion of CTE classrooms; modernization of the gymnasium; upgrades to fields and sports courts; and enhancements to all existing buildings.
