Jordan Court Senior Housing

Berkeley, CA

The first new affordable housing project in North Berkeley since 1992, Jordan Court is a 37-unit building with below-market-rate rental apartments for seniors. It represents a collaborative effort between Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA) and All Souls Episcopal Parish, who donated the land. The program also includes an onsite manager’s unit, designated apartments for the Parish, a parking garage, and a community room that fosters social interaction among residents.

The building is centered around a landscaped courtyard with a labyrinth and vegetable planters for resident gardening. The project is GreenPoint-Rated Gold, employing a variety of sustainable methodologies, including solar panels, high-efficiency LED lighting, and renewable or low-carbon materials and finishes.

The courtyard with labyrinth art and vegetable garden is a contemplative space facing the neighboring All Souls Episcopal Parish
