Foon Lok East at Brooklyn Basin
Oakland, CA
Completing a vibrant new affordable neighborhood in Brooklyn Basin
As the fourth and final development of affordable housing at Brooklyn Basin, Foon Lok East is seamlessly connected to the adjacent Foon Lok West, structurally adjoined at the podium level through a beautifully landscaped courtyard connecting both “L” shaped buildings.
The 124-unit community offers a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom rental units, serving low-income families and formerly unhoused individuals. Operating as one property neighboring Foon Lok West, the project is named after the Cantonese phrase for “joyous community”. Foon Lok East provides residents with access to a range of shared amenities, including a spacious community room with spectacular views of Oakland’s historic waterfront, a computer lab, a learning/childcare center, and secured bicycle parking. The central courtyard features an active and passive space with landscaped mounds, generous seating areas, a playground, and a BBQ area. A shared playground with Foon Lok West includes active equipment for climbing and fun.
