Utilizing the creative concept of air rights parceling, the St. Anthony Foundation (SAF) approached Mercy Housing California to jointly develop the 11,000 SF site to include social service programs on the first two floors with 8 stories of affordable senior housing above. The new Vera Haile Senior Community/St Anthony’s Dining Room building constitutes a very unique mixed-use residential project combining the development efforts of these two non-profit organizations into an important new urban landmark assisting the homeless and underserved in one of the poorest neighborhoods of San Francisco. A soft, inviting palette of warm neutrals, pastel oranges, and light wood tones creates a calming atmosphere. Elegant double height spaces feel airy and bright. Upper floor common areas look out over a double height community room, creating a sense of connection between the spaces.
